Provence - A Wine Lover's Dream Come True!

Provence is often overlooked by companies that offer traditional wine tasting tours, in spite of the excellence of its wines. If you're a true wine lover and wine fan, this beautiful location in France offers the most fascinating scenery and, not to mention, some of the best vineyards around.

In Provence, as everywhere in the Mediterranean, you'll find the people full of warmth, spontaneity and a "joie de vivre". As you will soon discover, any of these master oenologists (winemakers) will be delighted to introduce you to the wines they have become famous for; and share a little of the region's history with you.

In Provence your days will be filled with sunshine and warmth, and lush nights, scented with jasmine, lavender and wild thyme - whether you stay in a bustling, crowded metropolis with all the modern conveniences, or a turn-of-the-century country guest house filled with 17th and 18th century antiques.

However, little do outsiders know that winemaking in Provence is a serious business. Many of the winegrowers here have won the rights to include the prestigious "AOC" designation (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) on their bottles of wines. This label assures the buyer of a guaranteed vintage from the designated region. In order to win the right to become designated as an appellation wine, winegrowers much pass rigorous tests and inspections.

If you are thinking of traveling to the south of France in the near future, think about including a trip to one of the vineyards of the 60 winegrowers in the "Cotes de Provence" region. A small, yet beautiful area, it takes in the departments of the Var and part of the Bouches-du-Rhone.

Located in the heart of Provence's winemaking region, the "Maison des Cotes de Provence" boasts an outstanding selection of appellation wines. The Cotes de Provence winegrowers are experts in utilizing traditional methods when harvesting and bottling their wines. Their deep respect for the soil, the climate and the different varieties of grapes they use comes through in the quality and taste of each bottle.

During your visit to Provence, you can also arrange to take a wine tasting course at one of the vineyards where you will learn a complete understanding of wine: its robe (color), its bouquet (perfume), its body (strength) and everything you need to know about service, conservation and more. Not only will you be able to taste the finest wines, but you will also learn invaluable winemaking tips you can't learn elsewhere.

For the true wine lover, Provence is definitely a place to visit - both for the fantastic wines and unforgettable scenery!

Build Your Own Wine Rack (In An Afternoon)

A good drink is what even Gods enjoy and to most a good wine is the best drink in the world. The connoisseurs of wine say that to find out a good wine is to smell and taste it. Not is the case with the wine racks. It is much harder a task than that for you get to know the insulation, humidity and temperature that your wine needs besides the ambience that your wine drinker needs and lot other things.

Because of the specific requirements of the wines in terms of the humidity, etc the wine racks can be only few types in the texture although they may vary in terms of the design, the space they tae and the number of wine bottles they can hold.

For building your own wine rack the first thing that you should be sure of is that whether your walls have sufficient insulation otherwise you will lose nearly all of your good wine. A good insulation ranges from R11 to R19 depending the outer temperature, as basement cellars may need more insulation. After having an optimum insulation the next thing you should consider for building your own rack is the material. The options available are redwood, lattice, country pine and mahogany. Redwood offers a soothing look to the bar while the country pine allows an artistic environment. You can also have metal ones but they require extra care and not much can be offered in terms of designs.

For each bottle there should be a 4 to 6 inch breathing space that will help in not only easy accessibility but also for cleaning purposes. You shouldnt forget to keep the width of the rack at least 2 inch more than the length of the wine bottle although we advise around 15 inch for a single racking. There are many designs and most of them in different geometrical patterns but the best out of them is the rectangular one which is quite safe.

If you are thinking over some color, although it all depends upon the color of the walls and other surroundings, we recommend the dark ones. They give a more romantic and elegant look. Redwood and the mahogany generally do not need to be painted.

There are certain precautions that need to be considered. There should be no electrical installations where you are preparing to have your wine rack. The lighting system at the ceiling is called the can lighting and it should be around 15 inch from the wall for a single deep racking and around 28 to 30 inch for double deep racking. The doors and the windows of the bar should be properly installed so that they maintain insulation of inside from outside. The rack should not interfere with the door, window or any type of switch.

Besides the above ones there are certain racks called as counter top racks meant for a few bottles ranging from 1 to 12 and generally they are suited for a small gathering and are best kept on a table. Similarly there are certain racks which are rightly called hanging racks for they hang to the ceiling or the wall and they serve the purpose of both a show piece and a functional small rack.

Guide To Buying Wine Glasses

src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Using propper wine glasses can make a difference with the wine you drink, this how to guide will help you select great wine glasses.

Wine Glasses Article From www.Wine-Blog.net

You?ve heard somewhere or read somewhere that wine must be served in the best crystal to get its full advantage, well not necessarily but there are a few basic principles to remember when choosing glasses that will help you get the best from your favorite bottle.

It is true however that the appearance, smell and even the taste can be enhanced by using the proper glasses. The oldest surviving wine glass with a stem and foot are 15th century enameled goblets that holds more than four ounces of liquid. Towards the end of the 16th century in Germany, wine glasses are sophistically engraved as decoration . Meanwhile The earliest surviving English wine glasses that were produced near the end of the 16th century were made by Verzelini, there were diamond-engraved. Around the 1740s plain straight stems and air twist stems gained popularity . France introduced fine crystal glasses towards the end of the 18th century.

Wine glasses during the 19th century were often produced in sets of a dozen each, each set for port and sherry, burgundy and claret, champagne glasses and liqueur glasses. In the 1950s, Riedel Crystal and other manufacturers have refined the design of wine glasses with unique size and shape for almost every wine variation.

When choosing glasses, always remember to first choose a plain glass to set off your best wines, stay away from colored or even those that have tinted stems or bases. The effect of light on the wine, specifically the ?legs? and ?tears? on the inner wall when you swirl the wine and the way aromas are captured within the wine glass and finally presented to your nose while drinking are one of the most important things to consider when choosing wine glasses. Glasses with a wide bowl that tapers toward the mouth will allow the aroma of the wine to be released generously. This is because the deeper bowls allow more room for swirling and the narrow opening channels the aroma to your nostrils efficiently. A big flared opening will disperse the aroma rather quicker.

Red wines are traditionally served in bigger glasses than white wine, this is because red wines needs more space to breathe and develop, remember, a wine glass can never be too big. Sparkling wines should be served in think glasses with straight side or flutes so that the fizz is preserved.
Realizing the plight of budget restricted consumers, the California Wine Institute has developed an all-purpose wine glass. It is five and one half inches tall with a one and three quarter inch stem. Its clear, tulip-shaped bowl holds a capacity of up to eight ounces.

Setting of wine glasses at a dinner party should also be taken into consideration when serving different types of wine throughout each course. The glasses should be arranged in the order they are to be used and right to left. Typically wine is poured from the right, while food is served from the left. You might want to begin with tall stemmed glass for whites followed by a large wine goblet for reds and ending with short smaller glass for port or sherry. Finally remember that you need to leave room to capture the aroma as it rises from the swirled wine and allowing room for it to be tilted to evaluate the color of the winePsychology Articles, therefore it?s best to fill the wine glass at one third to one half full at the most.
