Big Aussie Wines

Australias wine industry has boomed in the past ten years. Employers have had to triple their staff numbers to cope with the demand for Aussie wine. Considering the lower average national population of Australia, compared to say the United States or even South Africa, 30,000 (2001) workers is pretty high.

One of the main reasons for the demand on this skillful industry is that it has won an international reputation for quality and value. Australian wines have won many highly sought after international awards and labels and many innovative Australian winemakers are sought internationally for their wine making expertise.

Wine regions throughout Australia have continually had high ratings especially over the past four years. Most of these regions and especially the East and South coasts (New South Wales and Victoria) are averaging 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Second to the brilliant winemakers, and a close second, is the great climates / weather that certain regions have for cultivating vines.

Wine is very much a part of the Australian way of life, closely associated with both business and leisure. Wine consumption is often linked to the country's outdoor-oriented lifestyle as well as to the cosmopolitan urban way of life of the bulk of the Australian population.

Australia exports more wine than that that is sold domestically. Out of a total of approximately 919 million litres bottled, 516.5 million litres is exported. The largest export market has been the United Kingdom and second has been the United States.

Researchers from the University College London have come up with a few very interesting facts. They found that drinking alcohol (including wine), even in small amounts, might be associated with higher cognitive ability, especially for women. You would be silly not to have a drop every night!

Raise A Glass To The Best Wine Of The Month Gifts!

Are you looking for some of the best wine of the month gifts? We have taken out all the hard work and done your research for you. See our Wine Gifts page (http://www.gourmet-food-gifts.com/wine-gifts.htm) for our suggestions, but heres a little information you need before buying any wine of the month gifts.

First, you need to decide your budget. If its small, thats not a problem. There are so many choices when it comes to wine gifts: number of months, number of wines, color of wines, regions and so on that anyone can afford to give a wine of the month gift. You dont have to go with 12 months month to month, 3 months, 6 months are also available.

You can also opt for wine clubs that send wine and gourmet food every month. These are of course slightly more expensive, but in my opinion you shouldnt have to drink your wine without anything to compliment it. A great thing about joining a wine club also is that theres usually an extra discount on other purchases you make. Yes, its not the cheapest gift to give, but if you know a wine lover, a wine of the month gift can be the best gift they ever get!

Above above: Me with David and his family. Above: No, I don’t like guns. I’m laughing in this picture because I was so shocked to get into the front seat of the cop car and find this monster sitting on the passenger seat next to me! Anchovy sauce for broccoli

Tue, 20 Jan 2009 07:07:00 -0800
This is seriously good, seriously unphotogenic, a wonderful winter alternative to salsa verde. We've eaten it every night this week. It's particularly good with broccoli, goes well with roast lamb, with lentils. If you make a stiff mix with only a little olive oil, then you can use it to spread on toast (a sort of homemade Gentleman's Relish without the butter). If you make it with plenty of olive oil, then you can use it as a salad dressing for bitter winter leaves. It's also good as a dip with

Winter Eating: Go for Spice Chicago

Tue, 20 Jan 2009 00:34:26 -0800
January can be a tough time to find inspiration in the kitchen, particularly in the cold Midwest. But there's one kind of ingredient that's always readily available, even when its 10 below: Spices! We take a look at some spicy Ethiopian dishes below. Rich casseroles and meat-heavy dishes are traditional Midwest favorites this time of year, but a vegetarian trying to eat light has to get a little more creative. In Chicago, we're lucky to have access to a wide variety of ethnic markets, and the

"Pumpkin!" That was the final word that I needed to win Mrs. Julkunen's second-grade Fall Festival bingo game. The stakes were high: winning meant not only bragging rights on the playground but also a beautiful package of scented pencils that I lusted over and begged my mom endlessly for quarters so I could buy some out of the vending machines at my school. Cinnamon, bubblegum, even rootbeer! I needed those pencils. And Mrs. J just said "pumpkin!" I was the second-grade Bingo Star! Except..
